Tahiti, August 8, 2024 – This Wednesday, the country signed the Roman Jacob Charter at the CHPF, in the presence of French neurosurgeon, member of the National Commission of the Charter. With this signature, Polynesia commits to increase awareness, training of medical and social workers and the organization necessary to meet the specific needs of people with disabilities.
The country wants to develop a roadmap to improve access to care for people with disabilities. In fact, this Wednesday, at the CHPF, the Interministerial Delegate for Disability, Nathalie Salmon, met with Timothée de Saint-Denis, a neurosurgeon at the Necker Hospital in Paris and member of the National Committee of the Roman Jacob Charter.
It is this Charter that is at the heart of the discussion. Its goal is to improve access to care for people with disabilities through multiple axes. In particular, it allows for improved accessibility, the right to rest, assistance to caregivers, as well as the reception, care and support of members of the public with special needs. The Charter also encourages the dissemination of good practices and the coordination of the health journey of people with disabilities to guarantee them full citizenship and quality care.
By signing this charter with the leaders of Taoone, the country firmly commits itself to the path of equality. The signatories pledge to increase the awareness, training of medical and social personnel, and the organization needed to meet the specific needs of this population, while promoting the autonomy and active participation of people with disabilities.
