The Tshwane City Council believes a prolonged water outage in Retabiseng near Bronkhorstpruit this week may have been caused by vandalism.
The city government said it had received information that “an act of vandalism had taken place in Rethabiseng with the aim of depriving residents of their human right to access water”.
According to the municipality, a valve on a pipeline in Rethabiseng was opened, causing water to “gush” onto the grasslands, cutting off the town’s water supply. The neighbouring community of Ekangala was also affected.
