Washington Capitals Trade Market and Free Agency to re-strengthen the roster ahead of the 2024-25 NHL season.
Washington is $14.2 million over the salary cap after acquiring four players via trades and signing three new players.
The Carolina Hurricanes parted ways with the center on Wednesday, reducing the excess by $3.9 million. Yevgeny Kuznetsovwhere he was traded from Washington in March.
Although Washington’s offseason spending spree still leaves it about $10 million over the salary cap, it’s not cause for panic.

Bell has a $2 million cap hit, which would still keep Washington under the cap, but doesn’t leave much room for the team to add another quality player.
So the numbers right now indicate one thing, but when the financial dust settles, Washington will be in compliance with salary cap regulations, maybe New General Manager Chris Patrick Will follow President of Hockey Operations Brian MacLellan’s busy offseason as well as some of his own preseason moves.
