The days of the MG ZS are numbered. This genuine bestseller, formerly the best-selling Chinese car in Europe, will soon no longer be sold on the Old Continent, despite occupying a high position in the sales charts in important European markets.
The model, which has put strong rivals such as the Dacia Duster or the Suzuki Vitara in a difficult position and was the best-selling car in Spain in December 2023, is now preparing for its launch. Despite more than 54,000 deliveries in six months, MG has reportedly made the final preparations for the farewell of its affordable SUV Klix.
In a short time, the ZS achieved extraordinary results. In certain markets in Europe, it was at the top for a few months of the year. How could it not be when it was sold in certain markets for less than 15,000 euros. This price proved to be unbeatable among the competition. However, his commercial performance also came to an end.
2024 is a crucial year for MG in Europe. The once British company, now owned by Chinese automotive industry giant SAIC for more than a decade, is pushing forward with its ambitious production offensive. The arrival of the new MG3 Hybrid+ and MG HS 2025 are perfect examples of how the MG range is changing, and the ZS is not immune.
The discontinuation of the current ZS does not mean that MG will give up fighting in this market segment. On the contrary, MG is working hard to develop its successor to continue its revolutionary competition in the European economy car market.
MG has already begun the arduous task of developing an all-new ZS. As recently released spy photos show, the project is well underway. This will be an all-new car, and while it is not entirely clear whether the commercial name ZS will be retained, MG may well decide to continue using the name as it has already gained a notable reputation, especially in southern Europe.
It remains to be seen whether the new 2025 MG ZS will still be available with a conventional petrol engine. However, it can be assumed that the range will certainly include a powertrain with Hybrid+ technology, which was recently introduced with the new MG3. In addition, a 100% electric model will remain on the offer, although in most markets this model will be more attractive as a petrol model.
If all goes to plan, the new ZS (if the name still exists) will debut by the end of this year. This means the second generation will arrive in European showrooms in the first half of 2025.
