A new study has revealed the cleanest cities for Airbnb in Europe, with Split, Croatia, topping the list.
The vacation rental experts at GuestReady analyzed Airbnb data to find the average cleanliness ratings for rental properties in 50 popular European cities. They considered the 100 highest-rated properties in each city to determine which cities have the cleanest accommodations in the eyes of travelers.
Split, Croatia, ranked first, with an average Airbnb cleanliness rating of 4.93 out of 5 based on a total of 34,574 reviews. Airbnb in the city received an incredible 4.88 out of 5 based on six factors listed on the site: cleanliness, accuracy, check-in, communication, location and value. The average price of a night’s stay in Split is £75, ranking it 11th in the study.
Close behind was Dubrovnik in Croatia, which had an average cleanliness score of 4.92 out of 5 based on 31,638 reviews. Across all six factors, Dubrovnik scored 4.86 out of 5, making it tied with Frankfurt in Germany for the tenth cheapest nightly stay, with an average nightly rate of £71.
In third place is Athens, Greece, which scored 4.89 out of 5 for cleanliness based on 35,609 reviews. Based on the six factors listed above, Athens scored 4.87 out of 5 overall and was the seventh cheapest city to stay in, with an average price of £67.50 per night.
Edinburgh, Scotland, ranked fourth, with an average cleanliness rating of 4.88 out of 5 based on 39,791 reviews. The city scored 4.88 out of 5 in all six factors, making it tied with Amsterdam in the Netherlands as the second most expensive city to stay in, with a nightly rate of £124.
Bratislava, Krakow and Venice ranked fifth, with an average cleanliness score of 4.87 out of 5. Bratislava in Slovakia was the ninth cheapest city, with an average night’s stay costing £69. Krakow in Poland was the second cheapest city (£58 per night), while Venice in Italy was the fourth most expensive city (£121.50 per night).
Reykjavik, Iceland, and Geneva, Switzerland, tied for sixth place, with an average cleanliness score of 4.86 out of 5. Reykjavik was the most expensive city to stay in per night, with an average cost of £139.50. Geneva was the 16th most expensive city to stay in, with an average cost of £92 per night.
Florence, Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Warsaw and Bilbao tied for the seventh cleanest city for Airbnb bookings, with an average cleanliness score of 4.85 out of 5.
In eighth place were Munich, Riga, Bordeaux, Tallinn, Zurich and Dublin, with an average cleanliness score of 4.84 (out of 5).
Eight cities tied for ninth place, with an average cleanliness score of 4.83 out of 5. These eight cities are Porto, Cologne, Berlin, Milan, Seville, Bucharest, Stockholm and Vienna.
Helsinki, Frankfurt, Lisbon and Luxembourg City tied for tenth place, with an average cleanliness score of 4.82 out of 5.
According to user reviews, Airbnb accommodations in Paris, France, and Valencia, Spain, were the least clean, with an average cleanliness rating of 4.75 out of 5.
