Abu Dhabi Heritage has announced that there is still a great deal of interest in poets registering to compete for the eleventh season of the Prince of Poets programme through the programme’s official website, princeofpoets.ae, as applications will continue to be accepted until August 15, when nominations will be collated and the poems will be evaluated by a jury to prepare for the poet interview phase and 20 finalists will be selected for a live performance at the Al Raha Beach Theatre in Abu Dhabi.
In its final season, the program saw the first female poet in the history of the season to be awarded this title, a program that has been dominated by men in the past few years, revealing the role played by the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in consolidating the interaction and development of poetry. The program is a platform that brings together Arabic-speaking peoples, aims to promote exchange between peoples and cultures and promote the Arab cultural movement.
The Administration revealed that those who wish to participate in the “Poet Prince” program can view the detailed registration conditions through the program’s website, explaining that the most prominent registration conditions are that the applicant must be no less than 18 years old and no more than 45 years old, and must submit a vertical poem of no more than 20 lines, no less than 8 lines, or an activity poem with no more than two syllables, and the number of lines in each stanza of the poem must not exceed 15 lines and no less than 10 lines.
The Administration appreciates the willingness of poets to sign up for the program, and registration activity on the official website has continued since it opened in mid-July.
The winner of the title of “Poet Prince” will receive a wig, a ring symbolizing the title of the Emirates and a cash prize worth 1 million dirhams, the second place winner will receive a prize of 500,000 dirhams, the third place winner will receive a prize of 500,000 dirhams, the fourth place winner will receive a prize of 200,000 dirhams, and the fifth place winner will receive a prize of 100,000 dirhams.
