A historic two-storey Federation Queen Anne-style building, once used as a convent for Franciscan monks, has just been listed for sale for $595,000, well below Perth’s average house price of $852,240.

Built in 1903, Tugiye Abbey occupies 1.57 hectares of land on an elevated cul-de-sac site overlooking the River Avon.

It features an impressive entrance and staircase, formal library, living and meeting rooms, as well as 10 bedrooms, an upstairs chapel and lounge, and a 274-square-meter balcony.

The other buildings include a separate kitchen, and original boiler/laundry room, which could provide extensive accommodation for new owners, subject to council approval.

The Creasy family purchased the property in 2022 with plans to transform it into luxury short-term accommodation.

They hired architecture firm Botica Architects and began working with the Shire of Turgiye to change the site’s permitted use from a monastery to single dwellings and short-term accommodation.

In November 2023, the Council gave its approval.

But unfortunately, the Perth family’s dream did not come true, owner Anne Creasey said today Saturday’s sales were bittersweet.
