The Environment and Peace Reporting Symposium kicked off on August 5 in Bali, Indonesia, in an effort to welcome The 8th ABU Media Summit on Climate Action and Disaster Prevention will be held from tomorrow (August 6) to Thursday (August 8).
A pre-Summit workshop explored the intersection between environmental issues and peacebuilding efforts from the perspective of journalism and media coverage. The workshop delved into the importance of reporting on environmental issues and peace-related initiatives, highlighting the role of the media in raising awareness, promoting dialogue and fostering positive attitudes.
The symposium covered topics such as the ethical responsibilities of climate and peace journalism, the principles of accurate and fair reporting, and the creation of stories, and brought together a diverse group of experts from the global media community for an exciting Program Schedule.
The summit will bring together leading experts, policymakers and media professionals to discuss key issues and strategies related to climate action and disaster prevention.
The theme of this year’s summit is “Media Saves Lives”, which emphasizes the key role of the media in mitigating the impact of climate-related disasters. As climate change increases the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, the Asia-Pacific region urgently needs to strengthen early warning capabilities and improve disaster preparedness.
