Palau Koror – Strengthening collaboration among stakeholders is essential to address environmental challenges, according to the 4th National Environment Symposium held yesterday (June 20, 2024) at the Amayong Cultural Center.

The workshop brought together environmental experts, agency representatives and community members to discuss pressing environmental issues, current solutions and future strategies. The focus was on collaborative approaches to address existing threats and emerging challenges.

Discussions covered a wide range of topics, including environmental protection and restoration, waste management strategies, sustainable food systems, climate change solutions, and responding to emerging threats.

Participants learned about successful initiatives such as rodent control on Wulong Island, improving the health of mangroves by combining traditional and modern management techniques, and innovative waste recycling solutions. Discussions also explored how to transform taro farming, use biogas technology to turn waste into a valuable resource, and address new threats such as fungi that harm Wulong trees.

A recurring theme at the workshop was the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders, including communities, government agencies and environmental experts. “Kaukledem” (Palauan for collaboration) was highlighted as a key factor in the successful implementation of proposed solutions.
