The Supreme Court today dismissed the petition initially filed seeking an interim order to prevent the holding of the presidential election until a referendum is passed as the 19th Amendment has not been properly passed.
The petitioner, Aruna Laksiri Fernando, was also ordered to pay Rs 5 lakh court fee by July 31.
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya issued the order.
The Electoral Commission will be authorized to hold the presidential election on July 17, the next day.
