Political sources revealed that despite opposition from several parties within the coordination framework, the Prime Minister of the Framework Government, Mohammad Sudani, received a binding proposal from Iranian parties to participate in the upcoming Iraqi elections.
The proposals, said two people familiar with the matter, come after political parties wanted to align with the Sudanese and move away from the coordination framework in exchange for him getting a second presidential term, at a time when the armed forces are experiencing sharp political and organizational divisions between factions that participate in the government and those that declare themselves satisfied only with military action.
On the political front, while the Sultan assumed office as prime minister with the support of the Shia Coordination Framework and its leader, Khazali, he also had major disagreements with a senior leader within the framework, Nouri al-Maliki, due to their different visions.
