Tegeta Green Standard – Tegeta Holdings wins Meliora 2024

Tegita Holdings This is the second time that Meliora has won the award in the category “Green Initiatives” at Meliora 2024. This year, the company participated in the Georgian Responsible Business Competition with the project “Tegita Green Standard”.

The winners of Meliora 2024 were determined in seven of the nine categories. An authoritative jury selected the best companies for outstanding CSR projects implemented in the previous year. The jury consisted of leading experts in the field, representatives of international and local public organizations and academia.

The company’s “Tegeta Green Standard” project, which was selected by an international jury, combines the holding’s complex approach to environmental protection and includes steps taken within the framework of environmental responsibility until 2023. According to the project, the holding’s vision involves three main directions: sustainable mobility solutions to achieve zero emissions, waste management and awareness-raising.

Tatia Khorbaladze, Head of Strategic Communications at Tegeta Holding:We are delighted that the “Tegeta Green Standard” received the best evaluation from the international jury. This victory demonstrates the company’s high level of corporate social responsibility. We have long considered environmental protection as a focus of our corporate social responsibility strategy and have taken important steps in this direction.

We have bigger plans and this victory will be an extra motivation for us. Our company has a complex and long-term vision for protecting the environment. At Tegeta, we believe that by recycling waste, we can create new value for the planet. It is this philosophy of caring for the environment that drives us to engage in environmental activities. It is important for us to promote public awareness.”

Representatives of the diplomatic corps and international experts in the field of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) presented awards to the winners in different categories. The project presented by Tegeta Holding combines the company’s green initiatives.

Mariam Japaridze, Tegeta Holding Corporate Social Responsibility manager: “The Responsible Enterprise of the Year Award is a great motivation for us. This is the second year that we have received the award in the category “Green Initiatives”, which proves that our vision in the environmental direction is full of consistent and at the same time environmentally friendly new initiatives, which are of interest to Georgian and foreign jury members. Within the framework of the “Tegeta Green Standard” we have combined the Holding’s approach to environmental protection.

Among the initiatives implemented to promote zero emissions, the Holding issued the first green bonds on the Georgian market, with the goal of taking steps towards comprehensive ecological initiatives. This includes the promotion of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles and the development of the corresponding infrastructure. “Tegeta”, as a flagship in the automotive sector, has been promoting the promotion of electric vehicles not only in Georgia, but also in the entire region for many years. The necessary prerequisite for the development of ecological clean transport is the arrangement of appropriate infrastructure.

Tegeta is the only private company in the automotive sector working on expanding the network of charging stations in the country. The holding started this process years ago and from 2023 it is on a larger scale and plans to install 150 chargers in the capital and regions by the end of the year.

In the second important direction, efficient waste management, the management organization of “Tegeta Holding”Tegeta Green Planet” is engaged in collecting automobile-specific waste and handing it over to licensed partner enterprises for recycling. This period also coincides with the environmental cleanup of the Tbilisi Bypass tires. In 2023, the area of the Tbilisi Ring Road polluted by environmentally harmful waste and tires was completely cleaned.

To increase awareness throughout the year, the company has launched a series of activities including clean-up drives and other events with the participation of employees and partner brands.

Like the world’s largest companies, energy efficiency is one of Tegeta’s priorities. The holding’s infrastructure is less harmful to the environment and more efficient for both business and society. Tegeta Holding contributes to the development of an ecologically clean, green automotive industry with its environmentally friendly, internationally standard, energy-efficient infrastructure projects.

To this end, the ultra-modern, multifunctional Tegeta Automotive Complex opened in 2023 to meet the many challenges and problems of today’s environment. For example, 762 solar panels are installed in the complex. There are 5 chargers on site. In addition, outdoor lights with solar panels are installed in the area, which saves 100% of electricity.

It was on the basis of these activities that the international jury made its decision to name Tegeta Holding as the winner in the category “Green Initiatives”.

Eka Urushadze, Director of the Center for Strategic Studies and Development of Georgia (CSRDG): Competitions like “Meliora” greatly support companies in implementing diverse CSR projects and strengthening the positive image and reputation of companies. Moreover, the development of CSR brings us closer to European corporate governance standards.”

The grand ceremony was held for the fifth time. The event was hosted by the Tbilisi History Museum “Karvasla” and was attended by representatives of civil society and various companies for the awarding of the “Georgia Responsible Business Competition – Meliora 2024”. A total of 250 guests attended the event.
