SINGAPORE (ANTARA/ACN Newswire) – TAU Intelligence is pleased to announce a promising partnership with Jardine Matheson and Intel. The strategic collaboration aims to enhance the application of generative AI by launching two groundbreaking proofs of concept (PoC) for Jardines, focusing on legal contract review and customer service.

TAU Intelligence uses a medium-sized Large Language Model (LLM), which is then fine-tuned on-site by the Jardines team. This approach differentiates this collaboration from the mainstream approach favored by many other projects exploring similar AI use cases. Importantly, this approach ensures that the data is not used for training or retained by the provider of the underlying LLM.

Preliminary results show that the approach not only maintains a high level of accuracy and output quality in reviewing and analyzing legal contract clauses and common user queries, but also provides significant resource efficiency in terms of energy usage and computing power.

Since 2022, TAU’s extensive research and development work has highlighted the challenges posed by large LLMs, particularly their high costs, data security issues, and environmental impact. Other studies have shown that popular LLMs consume 15 times more energy than a typical web search, raising environmental concerns. TAU’s strategy of using smaller and domain-specific LLMs that run locally in a company’s own environment addresses these issues, ensuring resource-efficient AI and data sovereignty.

The solutions developed through this collaboration will be tested on Intel’s next-generation Xeon® processors for data center, cloud and edge workloads. This collaboration will leverage Intel Xeon® processors to significantly improve performance through the industry-leading Intel Accelerator Engines and increase performance per watt on key workloads such as AI, data analytics, and high-performance computing (HPC).

Professor Lim Kok Eng, co-founder of TAU Intelligence and a renowned AI safety researcher in Singapore, commented: “The approach of these PoCs is very different from the current trend of rapidly scaling up LLMs and rapidly increasing energy and computing power consumption. By focusing on domain-specific knowledge, we can fine-tune the AI models so that smaller LLMs can be deployed in a safe manner, mitigate the hallucination problem and ensure responsible use of AI. This collaboration with Jardine Matheson is a sign that companies will focus on the development of responsible and resource-efficient AI solutions, setting a benchmark for innovation and sustainability in the AI industry.”

Anne O’Riordan, Group Digital Director at Jardine Matheson, highlighted the significance of the collaboration: “This collaboration underscores Jardine Matheson’s ongoing efforts to develop, test and deploy AI for the future of the business. These proofs of concept address real business challenges, enhancing operations by combining high-quality output with resource efficiency, while ensuring the security of our proprietary data. We are excited to see the results of this collaboration and the potential for future collaborations.”

John Koshy, Head of Jardine Group Legal, who led the Jardine Group Legal Contract Review PoC, said: “TAU Intelligence has a strong track record of deploying impactful AI solutions for major organisations in the region. Its experience in AI safety and commitment to fostering responsible AI aligns well with Jardine Group’s core pillars of innovation and sustainability.”
