Ersin Tatar said they will not give up Turkey’s continued guarantees in the Cyprus agreement and its military presence on the island, arguing that if an agreement is reached, the pseudo-state will become part of the agreement.
According to reports from the occupied territories, the Turkish leader spoke yesterday at an event in occupied Zios, while events were also held in the villages of Marata, Santalari, Aloya and others to discuss the killings of Turks during the second phase of Turkey’s invasion of Syria in 1974.
In his speech in Djos, Mr. Tatar again claimed that the international community condemned what was happening in Gaza but did not intervene, and that the United Nations watched “Turkish Cypriots being massacred. Therefore, Turkey’s guarantees and military presence are important. We will not forget nor let the martyrs be forgotten.”
He went on to say that young people must be fully aware of the “struggle for freedom and survival” given by T/k. “We were born from extermination. We won our freedom and independence through the struggle of the mujahideen and the intervention of Turkey,” he said of the invasion.
Ersin Tatar, who also spoke at the event in Malata, referred to the “great genocide” that took place there, “which we will never forget”. He went on to say that these were unpunished murders, citing documents claiming that the orders for the mass murders of T/k in the three villages were given by the T/k leadership at the time, and that those who carried out these murders were the army and police of the state. “We are facing such a shame,” Mr. Tatar said, meaning that the perpetrators have not been punished.
He reiterated Turkey’s claim that peace was achieved in Cyprus on July 20, 1974.
“These massacres have left an indelible scar in the memory of society,” and with deep sadness remember the brutal attacks of the terrorist organization “EOKA” on civilians (from 16-day-old babies to 95-year-olds), as well as the cruel face of war, said Gürchel Benan, “chairman” of the “Association of Martyrs’ Families and Disabled Veterans” speaking at the same event.
Mr. Benin said that the most basic and inalienable fundamental right that human beings have since birth is the right to life. When the right to life is abolished, other human rights cannot be mentioned.
He said Cyprus had suffered enough and said a permanent solution could be achieved if an environment was created in which Turkish Cypriots enjoyed equal rights and sovereignty, relying on Turkish guarantees.
