The first Michelin-starred restaurant in northern Finland is Tapio in Kuusamoruka.

The Michelin Guide, the most prestigious international recognition system for the restaurant industry, announced the restaurants selected for its Nordic Guide on Monday evening, May 27 in Helsinki.

Tapio Entrepreneurs Johanna Murujarvi33 and Conor LabineAfter operating for some time in the center of Kuusamo, the 32-year-old restaurant opened in the center of Ruka village in December 2023. The restaurant was originally established in 2018 in Mourujärvi’s hometown of Posio.

“Our style is modern Nordic cuisine. We focus on high-quality local ingredients and utilise both modern and traditional techniques, keeping it as simple yet sophisticated as possible,” Rayburn said in a press release.

Another new Finnish Michelin-starred restaurant is Kozeen Shiwani’s The Room in Helsinki.
