The tap water in Duinbergen and Heist currently does not meet quality standards. The municipality reported this on Sunday. As a precautionary measure, residents are asked to boil drinking water for five minutes first.
Recent analysis has shown that tap water from the Duinbergen-Heist drinking water network does not meet drinking water standards. “This is related to low bacterial concentrations in the drinking water,” the municipality said. While awaiting the results of further studies, residents are asked to boil their tap water for five minutes before drinking it.
The Urban Development Company of the Municipality of Knokke-Heist (AGSO) is investigating the cause and will be taking daily samples in the near future while the network is flushed. AGSO will inform residents when the water can be used again without boiling.
Water needs to be boiled only if residents want to use it for drinking, preparing beverages such as tea or soup, or preparing food. Tap water can be used for showering, washing dishes, and cleaning.
Residents are also asked to open all taps in their homes and let the water run for two minutes. “In this way, all the water in the pipes is altered,” the council said. Anyone with a health complaint should contact their GP.
