Tanoa Hotel Group recognises that we need to raise awareness and take action to protect the planet’s natural resources. As the effects of climate change and habitat destruction become more apparent, Conservation Day reminds us of our responsibility to preserve the environment for future generations.
As World Conservation Day was celebrated on Sunday, July 28, the Tanoa Hotels Fiji team was out and about on Saturday, July 27, doing their part to help sustainable development initiatives with small gestures that can make a big impact.
The Tanoa Waterfront team woke up early and started cleaning the waterfront at Lautoka Waterfront Boulevard at 5am, as it was low tide and a larger area could be covered. Their efforts ultimately collected 150.6kg of foreign matter, which was sorted for recycling or disposal in designated areas.
The Tanoa International team in Nadi put in a lot of time and effort to clean up Wailoaloa Beachfront, a popular public picnic spot for locals and tourists alike, collecting a staggering 249.5kg of rubbish.
The Skylodge team cleaned their front (kerbside) area and were surprised to find 169.2kg of rubbish was removed despite cleaning the area regularly.
The Tanoa Plaza Suva team also did their part in collecting rubbish and cleared 50.1kg of plastic and cardboard from Suva shores.
“All in all, it’s been a great effort from most of the Tanoa Hotel Group staff,” said Mr Narend Kumar, Regional General Manager for Fiji. “We are doing more than just rubbish collection, it’s more about educating our team and the community at large,” added Mr Kumar.
“The team picked up a total of 619.4 kg of waste, of which 178.1 kg (plastic bottles, aluminium cans, cardboard, glass bottles) were sorted and sent for recycling. The team is satisfied with their positive contribution to the World Conservation Day campaign,” said Mr Kumar in summarising Tanoa Hotels Fiji’s waste collection efforts.
Roneel Ravinesh Chand, Sustainability Manager at Tanoa Hotels, said: “We must value the importance of biodiversity and the vital role that healthy ecosystems play in sustaining life on Earth. Tanoa Hotel Group believes that by making conscious choices, everyone can contribute to a healthier, more resilient planet and he is excited to see everyone supporting the company’s efforts through their own small actions, making a big impact and helping to ‘Plan the Future – Tanoa Hotel Group’s Sustainability Initiative’.
True sustainability goes beyond the workplace. It means cultivating a mindset that values and prioritizes the well-being of the planet in every decision we make.
