Taipei, July 24, 2024 /PRNewswire/ — The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) announced today that, following a rigorous evaluation and review process, it has become the first stock exchange in the world to receive ISO 14068-1:2023 certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI) for carbon neutrality. The award not only reflects TWSE’s progress in environmental protection and sustainable development, but also highlights its leadership in global sustainability initiatives.

The Taiwan Stock Exchange has long been committed to sustainable development practices, continuously building sustainable resilience, and improving its operating mechanisms and quality in terms of environment, society and governance. In early 2023, the Taiwan Stock Exchange responded to Taiwan’s 2050 net zero transformation goal by formulating a carbon neutrality roadmap. The Taiwan Stock Exchange, in consultation with EY and referring to the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), has formulated a short-term goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 37.8% from 2022 to 2030 to limit global temperature rise to within 1.5°C. The ultimate goal is to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.

Between 2022 and 2040, TWSE aims to reduce emissions through energy-saving measures, equipment replacement and the use of renewable energy. Any remaining greenhouse gas emissions will be offset through carbon credits to achieve annual carbon neutrality. Between 2040 and 2050, TWSE will continue to offset residual emissions and unwaveringly pursue the goal of net zero emissions.
