Ambassador Lee Kit-ying of the Republic of China (Taiwan) presented checks of US$1 million for the 2024 Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Grant and US$460,000 for the final installment of the 2020 Economic Stimulus Plan to President Surangel S. Whipps, Jr. and Finance Minister Kaleb Udui, Jr. respectively.
The 2024 Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Grant aims to help Palau increase its resilience to drought, with priority support for ongoing projects to enhance water security by increasing water storage capacity in communities and public infrastructure; expanding the water supply capacity of existing reservoirs, streams, and aquifers, including improving water supply systems; and strengthening community engagement to increase awareness of the socioeconomic impacts of dry weather conditions and promote mitigation measures.
Projects under this action funded by the 2020 Economic Stimulus Package include: Ngaraard Ngerchokl Recreational Park and Ngchesar Taberngesang Recreational Park.
The Taiwanese government is willing to assist Palau in its national development and is committed to deepening relations with Palau through various cooperation programs.
