The statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates was reached today by SANA: “The notorious so-called ‘Israeli Knesset’ has issued a shameful decision designating the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) as a terrorist organization. “This is aimed at preventing this important agency from fulfilling its humanitarian mandate and providing a minimum of services to UNRWA’s areas of operation inside and outside Palestine.”
The ministry also said in the statement that “the decision of the United Nations General Assembly to establish UNRWA was to implement the rights of Palestinian refugees in the aftermath of the Nakba and to find a fair solution in accordance with international law and United Nations resolutions, in particular Resolution 11.194.”
“The Syrian Arab Republic strongly condemns Israel’s accusation that UNRWA has committed acts of terrorism; “This is part of an attempt to end the role of UNRWA and cover up the crimes and atrocities committed in Gaza and the West Bank,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, adding that “Zionist circles accuse an important organization that provides humanitarian services to the United Nations of terrorism.” “The lies and shameful accusations of which he is accused will lead to subsequent charges against him by the United Nations for acts of terrorism,” he said.
