Dam Press:
With the participation of Syria, the opening ceremony of the 33rd Summer Olympics kicked off in the French capital Paris, with 300,000 viewers on 124 platforms attending the opening ceremony.
For the first time in the history of the Summer Olympics, organizers did not hold the opening ceremony in the main stadium, but moved the event outdoors, specifically in the heart of the French capital, in line with their slogan “The Olympics are the Olympics.” About 6,800 athletes representing the participating delegations competed over 6 kilometers on 85 ferries and boats on the Seine River.
The ceremony included an exhibition of paintings starring 2,000 artists representing the harmony of all professions that contribute to the construction of civilization, with the participation of sports stars from around the world, as well as paintings of freedom embodied in the novel Les Misérables, and a painting about freedom at the Louvre Museum.
Syria will be represented at the Olympics by jockey Amr Hamsho in show jumping, weightlifter Maan Asaad in weightlifting over 109 kg, swimmer Omar Abbas in the 200m freestyle, judoka Hassan Bayan in the under 73 kg category, track and field athlete Alissar Youssef in the 100m run and gymnast Laith Najjar.
It’s worth noting that some events began before the official opening ceremony of the Olympics: football, rugby sevens, handball and archery.
