BABANE – The newly appointed national team head coach Sihlangu will reportedly receive double the salary of his predecessor, Dominic Kunene.
The Young Buffaloes coach, who has been the national team coach since 2020 until the end of May this year, has an estimated monthly salary of 30,000 Egyptian pounds. However, there are reports that the new sheriff may earn up to 62,417.67 Egyptian pounds. According to a reliable source, the Croatian coach stated in his application that his salary preference is $4,000, equivalent to 75,000 Egyptian pounds. “This salary may be negotiated and may be reduced to $3,500 (62,417.67 Egyptian pounds). His salary preference was the main factor in his favor because he made a reasonable and affordable offer,” the source said.
The source also revealed that among more than 100 foreign coach candidates, one had a salary requirement that was too high. It is said that a top European coach offered a salary of $10,000, equivalent to nearly 180,000 euros. It is worth noting that this amount is almost double the salary rate previously set by the Egyptian Football Association for foreign coaches. Former Silangu South African coach Ephraim “Shax” Mashaba received an annual salary of 100,000 Egyptian pounds. Significantly, the professional coaching license holder said the national team project looked interesting, which made him accept it because he did not come to the country to make money. He said this during the unveiling ceremony on Friday. In addition to the salary, the new coach is expected to enjoy other benefits that come with being appointed as the head coach of Sihlangu.
This includes, but is not limited to, cars and houses. The source also revealed that European coaches are also required to purchase sports coach insurance. EFA Marketing and Communications Officer Muzi ‘Rhoo’ Radebe was contacted to confirm the above salary, but he declined to comment. “I am not at liberty to comment on that. You’d better ask the coach himself because you are asking me a personal question. We do not discuss the terms of employee contracts publicly,” he said. Zdravko has extensive experience, having worked on three continents. The 59-year-old, who holds a professional license, has signed a two-year contract with Sihlangu. Former Sihlangu interim coach Sifiso ‘Nuro’ Ntibane is his assistant. The previous assistant coach’s salary was estimated at EGP 15,000.
