Suspect arrested in Mechelen shooting

The investigating judge issued an arrest warrant for murder, attempted murder and threatening with a weapon for a 61-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed a 43-year-old neighbor in Machelen on Sunday evening, the Halle-Wilvoort prosecutor’s office reported.

On Sunday evening, a shooting took place between neighbors in Mechelen. A 19-year-old cousin of the victim was also injured in the shooting. The young man is still in danger of death. The investigating judge issued an arrest warrant for the 61-year-old suspect on charges of murder, attempted murder and threatening with a weapon. This was reported by the Halle-Wilvoorde Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The shooting incident on Sunday evening in Blijde Inkomststraat in Machelen is said to be the result of a long-standing dispute between the victim and the suspect over a parking space. On Sunday evening, another clash took place, in which the Italian-sixty-year-old neighbour allegedly shot his Albanian neighbour while he was still in the van. The man in his forties did not survive.

The man, who is in his sixties, then shot and killed the neighbor’s 19-year-old cousin, who suffered life-threatening injuries. He also allegedly threatened the fatal victim’s wife and a neighbor across the street, and shot the fatal victim’s 15-year-old son. The wife, neighbor and son were not injured. The suspect then fled and was arrested in Upper Eze after a manhunt.
