GFC News editors asked some parents in Suriname about their holiday plans for their children.
Rita, a mother of three, enthused: “We are going to the La Boetán resort next week because the children are finished. At the end of August, my two children will go to see their grandfather and they are looking forward to it.”
“I’m going to China for two weeks. As soon as I get back we’ll plan the last days of our holiday. Even though the economic situation is bad right now, we’re trying our best to make the best of it, although I feel sorry for those who are struggling.”
Difani, a mother of two, explained how she hopes to prepare her children for the new school year: “I want to make sure my children are well prepared by helping them go to bed on time and socialize better.
We plan activities with the neighborhood kids so they can discover new things, expand their knowledge and vocabulary, and be better prepared for school problems. We also take a trip out of town.”
Donovan, a father of four, said he would like to take his children out of town or to the zoo, but doesn’t know yet if he has the financial resources, especially given the cost of school supplies.
“If that’s not possible, we try to make the house fun and spend time with my parents.”
Despite the current challenging economic climate, the survey results show that parents are creative and determined to provide their children with a worthwhile holiday.
