Mujahid Mohammed Ali, a member of the South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) board of directors responsible for international competitions, told the media on Thursday that the Sudanese team will face Libyan teams Nasir FC and Al-Ahly FC in the second round of the SSFA Cup preliminaries, which will be held in the capital Juba on August 24 and August 25, 2024.

Al Malih and Al Hilal, two giants of Sudanese football, were given a warm welcome upon their arrival in Juba and were well prepared for the occasion.

Before Sudan split into two countries, South Sudan and Sudan, former players positioned themselves as fans ready to host and support the Sudanese team.

South Sudan’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has encouraged the public to support the athletes in a massive way, using the event as an opportunity to boost its diplomatic profile in the region and send a signal of peace and stability, in a sign of the people’s growing love for sports.

Under President Salva Kiir, the leadership sees sport as a symbol of unity, diplomacy, building social harmony and cohesion, while building relations with other countries in the region and beyond.

The football authorities and organizers have arranged to host Al-Marriekh and Al-Hilal in some of South Sudan’s major, well-secured and heavily guarded hotels: the playing fields are also well laid out and well protected.
