More than 20 million people affected by famine in Sudan
Observers of the war between the two generals called it the greatest danger in the world.
The war began in April last year between the Sudanese Armed Forces, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Forces Without Borders, led by General Mohammed Hamdan Dagolo, also known as Hemeti. Even peace talks between the two sides have failed.
More than 12 million people have been displaced, including 2 million refugees from Sudan’s neighbors such as Chad, Egypt and South Sudan.
The famine is being used as a weapon by Sudan’s warring factions, and it is estimated that up to 2.5 million people could die of starvation in Sudan by the end of the year.
This week, Sudan’s military allowed 15 UN aid trucks from Chad to enter the country.
The United Nations, through its food aid arm (IPC), said famine was a serious threat to parts of Sudan’s western province of Darfur.
