The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan proposed to approve the use of liquefied petroleum gas as a transport fuel, as a strategic raw material for oil and gas chemical industry. At the government meeting, Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said that no one in the world uses liquefied petroleum gas as a fuel for cars and uses it for the production of high VAT products. The number of gas-powered cars in the country is increasing. Last year it increased by 18% compared to 2022. The number of cars switched to gasoline is close to 600,000. This trend has further aggravated the shortage of liquefied gas. The shortage of liquefied gas has reached 25%. According to the Ministry of Energy, in this case, the blue fuel is illegally exported to neighboring countries. Experts say that there is a reason for such a grouping. Recently, the consumption of natural gas in border areas has increased significantly. Officials say that, as a result, secret and illegal gas trade has developed in these areas. Because the price of natural gas used as a transport fuel in Kazakhstan is 2 times cheaper than in Russia, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov:
– Earlier, I instructed relevant state agencies to step up efforts to combat the “shadow” export of liquefied natural gas, including through criminal prosecution. According to data from the National Security Council, 14 cases of illegal export of liquefied petroleum gas abroad were stopped. This work needs to continue.

In this regard, Olzhas Bektenov raised the issue of controlling gas installation services for cars and instructed to monitor the presence of appropriate markings in the technical documentation of vehicles. “This is necessary for accurate accounting and ensuring the safety of citizens,” the head of government said. Energy Minister Almasaddam Satkaliyev announced that commercial gas prices will gradually increase. So far this year, since July 1, wholesale blue fuel prices have risen by an average of 14%.

Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almasaddam Satykaliev:
– In order to attract investment in the gas sector and realize the cost of commercial gas, it is necessary to gradually increase gas prices to avoid a sharp increase in residential prices. It is planned to achieve cost-free sales of natural gas in the domestic market within three years.
