Strengthening bilateral relations and economic and security cooperation”

As part of an important official visit, Niger’s Prime Minister Ali Mahamand Lamine Zaina was received in Algiers by his Algerian counterpart Nader Lalbawi. The meeting is part of efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Niger and Algeria, two brotherly countries with a history of cooperation and solidarity. Prime Minister Lamine Zaina was accompanied by a high-level delegation including the Minister of State, Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Salifou Modi, Minister of Youth, Culture, Arts and Sports, Major Abdalhamane Amadou, Minister of Transport, Major Salisu Mahamand Salisu and Niger’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Overseas Affairs, Mr. Bakary Yaou Sangaré.

The discussions, held at the Algerian Government Palace in Algiers, addressed several key aspects of the bilateral relationship, particularly economic cooperation and regional security. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Lamine Zayed, Niger is committed to strengthening its strategic partnership with Algeria, which has made important contributions to the stability of the Sahel region. The visit is part of a dynamic aimed at strengthening Niger’s sovereignty and stability while exploring new development opportunities.

Algeria, as a historical ally, has always provided support to Niger in its most difficult moments. Prime Minister Lamine Zaina expressed his gratitude to Algeria and its President Abdelmadjid Tebboune for their clear opposition to any military intervention in sisterly Niger. This position strengthens Algeria’s image as a trusted partner in the region facing security challenges.

Cooperation between the two countries also extends to the energy sector, including major projects such as the Trans-Sahara Gas Pipeline (TSGP) and the resumption of the activities of the National Oil Company in Niger. These initiatives demonstrate the desire of the two brotherly countries to work together to develop their resources in a mutually beneficial way.

Nigerien ministers accompanying Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zaine also participated in the discussion, bringing expertise in their respective fields. Defense Minister Lieutenant General Salifou Modi particularly emphasized the importance of security cooperation between the two countries, a key aspect of stability in the region. Foreign Minister Bakary Yau Sangaré stressed the importance of continued diplomatic dialogue to strengthen bilateral relations.

The visit also paid tribute to the Algerian martyrs, highlighting the depth of the historical relations between Niger and Algeria. This symbolic gesture reaffirms the solidarity between the two countries and their shared commitment to peace and development.

This official visit marks a turning point in relations between Niger and Algeria, laying the foundation for a strengthened and lasting partnership.
