FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the recent murder of a young woman, an apparent victim of domestic violence. I extend my condolences to the family of the deceased and hope that the relevant authorities will bring swift justice to her and her family.

It is always very difficult when violent conflict breaks out in a family and a child loses his or her mother because of our inability to resolve interpersonal conflicts and disagreements in a civil and diplomatic manner.

I once again urge all women in relationships to be careful and selfish in protecting their own mental and physical health as well as their personal safety. It is absolutely unacceptable for men to abuse their partners and the mothers of their children, and women must not be subjected to indiscriminate violence for remaining in abusive relationships.

Furthermore, for observers, we must commit to being our sisters’ keepers and immediately alert the authorities if anything seems out of place in all relationships among our family, colleagues, and friends.

One life lost to violence is one life too many and we all have a responsibility to do our small part to ensure our homes, workplaces and public places are safe spaces and crime-free zones.

If we possess the necessary will, we have the power to curb and eradicate this social scourge and the culture of violence in all its forms, which too often leads to indiscriminate killing of innocent people and unspeakable suffering.

Let us follow the golden rule.
