State upgrades settlements – Fiji Times

Housing Minister Maciu Nalumisa said a total of $30 million would be invested in upgrading informal settlements on Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.

Mr Narumisa said four informal settlements are currently under construction and two more will begin construction this financial year.

“The four informal settlements currently in the construction phase are:
• Sakoca in Nasinu, with 174 households;
• Tavela in Nadi, with 68 households;
• Lautoka Plot 4, with 77 households;
• The same situation is happening in Lautoka,” Mr Nalumisa said.

“Two more informal settlements are set to start construction this financial year, namely Vuniika in Labasa (101 households) and Wabuyaya in Ba (35 households).
“Minor works are also underway in 16 informal settlements and the works programme is expected to be completed by the end of this year before entering the construction phase.”
