Reykjavík Mayor Einar Þorsteinsson will be around the city centre tomorrow and, among other things, will take part in the half and full marathon of the 2024 Reykjavík Marathon Íslandsbanki together with Friða Bjarnadóttir.

Frida was the first Icelandic woman to run a full marathon in Iceland and participated in the first Reykjavik Marathon in 1984, but she had been banned from running marathons the year before.

Knutur Oscarsson will then start the 10km race, but he is one of the founders of the Reykjavik Marathon and has been its long-time chairman.

Pick up a waffle iron

Einar will not invite for waffle coffee tomorrow, as his predecessor Dagur B. Eggertsson usually did on Menningarnótt. Is it because Einar lives in Breiðholt and not in the city center?

However, Einar plans to keep the waffle tradition alive and plans to visit residents downtown and bake waffles with them.

“I’m going to try the waffle coffee and maybe buy a waffle maker,” Einar said in an interview with mbl.is.

Honor Greenwich

Grindvíking is the guest of honor at this year’s Cultural Night and will be offering a varied program.

“I encourage everyone to go to Reykjavik City Hall, see what Grindelwijn has to offer and show solidarity with them,” Einar said.

Einar will also inaugurate Hörputorgið, where a brass band battle can be seen, which according to Einar is one of the liveliest events in Menningarnätr.
