In Staphorst, this involves the expansion of ammunition storage facilities. The municipality has already pointed out this possibility. Maasvirakt is an area being investigated for so-called amphibious training. This location was recommended to the Ministry of Defense by the province of South Holland.
Information Sessions
Over the past two months, the Department of National Defence has held information evenings in each province on space requirements, research and the program’s progress. The Department of Defense also provided information on the processing of more than 2,200 submissions.Local residents were also able to share their concerns and ask questions. In total, about 3,000 people attended the briefing.
The Department of Defence will incorporate this input into its study of suitable locations for the National Defence Space Programme and its final recommendations to Cabinet.
As long as a final decision has not yet been made, the Ministry of Defense is aware that residents are concerned about possible plans in their area. This is why there are additional information evenings in September and October. People can also be informed via Defense.nl, mail and other means of communication. In addition, the Ministry of Defense is seeking to cooperate with municipalities so that they can also inform residents.
Determine space requirements
The armed forces are growing. This is necessary to defend our own territory and that of our allies. More space is needed for training, storage and transporting allies across the Netherlands.
According to current planning, a draft vision for the national policy on defence space will be published in early 2025, including an environmental impact statement (PlanMER). This includes preferred options for meeting space requirements (extensions) where the locations have not yet been determined. The final allocation of Dutch space is decided by the Cabinet.
