noCREW Publishing House is one of the five largest Czech book producers. The hundreds of titles published a year focus on a small genre of literature that has long been outside the mainstream. Most Romanian publishing companies basically only publish running images, even if this announcement would only cause minimal opposition from most comics fans.
But the gamble on comics paid off, and according to the two co-owners, the company is so strong thanks to a strong fan base that it did not even lose 500,000. Peter Little and Ji Pavlovsk did not like such trouble. But they could afford to take the risk.
One of the risky projects was the debut of Boy’s Love, a manga (Japanese comic) about the relationship between two men, published in August. In this case, the money could be ruined: ten years later, CREW Publishing began publishing the legendary manga One Piece, which sold less than 500 million copies worldwide.
We talked about Czech comics at the Brno Comic Festival, the first gathering of fans of Japanese pop culture, but also about comics and video games – the worlds in which CREW feels at home. That’s why Petr Lito and Ji Pavlovsk work as a duo, and the answer is shared. But Petr Lito was forced to withdraw.
