Last week, a group of about 30 cats and dogs wearing blue ribbons took to the streets of Hong Kong to protest against the Hong Kong police’s inaction on a cruel case of animal abuse. On Sunday, November 11, the protesters, mostly holding banners, set out from Chater Garden in Central and headed to Lower Albert Road to hand over a letter to the government to highlight a recent case in which the kitten named Lan Lan was found outside a supermarket in Cai Yuen Village, Sheung Shui, with its hind legs chopped off, but the local police only recorded it. At the end of the protest, they handed over a letter to the government asking the police to set up a special animal police team to deal with animal abuse cases.

One banner read: “Police and killer holding hands, killer is smiling and will continue to kill.”

“Please don’t hurt me…”

“When dogs attack humans, they are killed.
When humans attack animals, who will speak for us?”

“Please don’t be cruel to animals…”

“Respect life! Cherish life!”

“The cold-blooded police and the killer are in cahoots…”

“When humans kill animals, no one speaks for us…”

“We have dog rights and cat rights…”

“Stand up for Lanlan!!”
