Spotify has launched podcast comment sharing, a new way for users to engage with content creators and vice versa, as well as a new mobile app so podcasters can manage their shows and comments.
The streaming content platform has introduced in 2021 a way to interact in podcasts through question and answer sessions, as well as through the possibility of conducting surveys so that listeners can share their opinions.
The company highlighted that since implementing these features, more than 9 million unique Spotify listeners have interacted in Q&A sessions or surveys in 2024 alone. Moreover, this represents an 80% year-over-year increase. The total number of listeners’ responses and votes is recorded.
Within this framework, and in order to continue to drive podcast creators to build stronger relationships with their listeners and followers, Spotify has implemented a new tool that allows followers and podcasters to interact “anytime, anywhere.”
Specifically, it’s a new comments section that will appear next to podcast episodes, allowing listeners to post short messages, such as their thoughts on the topics covered in the episode or related questions. Likewise, they will be able to receive replies to these comments directly from content creators, similar to other platforms like Instagram or Facebook.
As Spotify’s vice president of podcast product Maya Prohovnik noted in a statement on the company’s blog, this feature is one that has been long requested by the platform’s podcasters and listeners.
This is because comments provide valuable feedback to creators as they get to know the opinions and thoughts of the users who listen to them, besides building a stronger connection with their audience.
For their part, listeners have also found this feature advantageous as they can now converse with podcasters “on a whole new level.” Users can now start leaving comments and have a two-way conversation with the podcast host.
A new app built specifically for podcasts
In addition, Spotify also said that in order to make it easier for podcast creators to manage their shows and comments, they have launched a new Spotify mobile app for podcasts.
The new app, detailed by the company, will allow podcasters to manage and update their content from anywhere. It also includes new notifications that will notify creators about issues such as whether they appear on Spotify lists, receive new comments from listeners, or when they reach new milestones (such as new follower counts).
Likewise, the tech company said that through this “app,” podcasters will be able to manage comments on their episodes so that they can maintain guidelines about what may or may not appear next to their content. Comments will therefore be divided into a tab for published ones and a tab for those that still need to be reviewed by the creator before being shared at a general level on the platform.
However, it should be noted that content creators can also block the comment option generally or for specific episodes.
