The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, has urged Blessing Oborududu to give her all to win a gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s wrestling event at the ongoing 2024 Olympics.
Earlier, the veteran wrestling star qualified for the semifinals in the women’s freestyle 68kg wrestling event on Monday.
“Bryce Oborududu has shown incredible resilience and skill throughout this journey.
“After winning the silver medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, she has the experience and determination to win the gold this time.
“We believe in her ability and we are rooting for her, hoping that she can make Nigeria proud again,” Ino said.
The minister assured her that the entire country would firmly support her to help her achieve better results and beat the silver medal she won in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“Bryce, you have made history and inspired countless Nigerians with your strength and perseverance.
“Now, it’s time to aim for the gold medal, the whole country is behind you and we believe you have the ability to reach the top step of the podium.
“Go ahead and give it your all, we’ll be with you every step of the way,” Ino added.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ogborududu put in a stellar performance, defeating Frenchman Kuumba Larroque 6-2 in a tight quarter-final clash.
In this match, Oborududu overcame a bad start where she initially fell behind her opponent.
However, she showed her resilience and skill to take a 3-2 lead and eventually seal the win with a 6-2 scoreline.
Despite the French crowd at the Champ de Mars stadium giving the home favourite a roaring support, the Nigerian kept his composure and ultimately emerged victorious.
According to NAN, Oborududu will face Kyrgyzstan’s Meerim Zhumanazarova in the semi-finals on Monday at 8pm.
The match was a rematch of their clash at the 2022 Yasar Dagu Championship, when Oboru Dudu won 3-2 to take home the gold medal.
