The Sports Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of Regional Development and Sports participated in the China (Guangdong) Suriname Economic and Trade Cooperation Seminar.
Relevant institutions and officials including the People’s Government of the People’s Republic of China, the Chinese Embassy in Suriname, the Suriname Chinese Association (Scua), the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries (LVV), and the Suriname Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KKF) attended the event.
The seminar was held in Jiang Yi Tongsheng Conference Room to explore cooperation opportunities between Suriname and China and discuss possible investments in Suriname’s agriculture, livestock, fisheries, sports, trade and entrepreneurship sectors.
During the seminar, the Sports Bureau signed a memorandum of understanding with the Liantai Group Dongguan Liantai Supply Chain Park. The memorandum of understanding aims to provide the Bureau with sports supplies and facilities to promote sports development in Suriname.
Director Gordon Touw Ngie Tjouw stressed in his speech that Suriname, like Guangdong, must transform from a traditional model to a modern model. He said that Suriname has sufficient sports talents, but there are still many deficiencies in sports facilities.
The Sports Director believes that the partnership is an ideal way to meet this challenge and push the Surinamese sports sector to the next level.
