Alves Perez, a rising star of the Spanish far right, has used the stabbing of an 11-year-old boy in central Spain last Sunday to spread racist and xenophobic rhetoric against immigrants, especially those of African descent.
Perez is known in Spain for being anti-establishment Mixer He claims he wants to “destroy” a political system he calls “totally corrupt.” He is the leader of the “extremist” group Se Acabó la Fiesta (SALF/The Party Is Over), which won three seats in the European Parliament in the recent European elections.
He has made several hate speeches since last weekend, linking an alleged increase in crime and violence to the growing influx of immigrants without providing official data. Immigrants entering Spain and other EU countries such as Italy and Greece.
In his Telegram Channel The social media account has more than 600,000 followers. Perez’s harsh xenophobic speech came shortly after news broke on Sunday (August 18) that an 11-year-old boy was stabbed to death while playing football with friends in the central Spanish town of Mocejón, according to state media.
Commenting on the news on Monday (August 19), the leader of the Spanish Armed Forces’ Left Alliance said that “beheadings and stabbings” occur every day in Spain, accusing African or Moroccan immigrants of being the perpetrators and even boldly speculating that an “Islamist attack” may have occurred.
Hours after the first hate post, Perez posted another controversial comment on Telegram about another attack, which he blamed on young immigrants in Madrid’s working-class neighborhoods.
“Another 16-year-old boy was stabbed in the back by five MENAS in a street in San Blas-Canillejas and was seriously injured,” the SALF leader said, referring to migrant unaccompanied minors (MENAS), as they are called by the VOX party, the SALF’s direct political rival and the third largest force in the Spanish parliament.
But they did not try to calm the situation. Posted by Pérez on X The license plate number of the vehicle driven by the Mossehon boy’s potential killer and a screenshot from Google Maps showed that the place where the teenager was killed was near a football field and a mosque.
“Residents of Mosaihong: Last Monday, August 5, 50 Africans arrived in town on buses that took them to Pattaya hotels. Our population is less than 5,000 and we used to live a peaceful life. Now there are rapes, robberies and the murder of a 10-year-old boy. Media and reality,” Perez said on X.
The victim’s age was 11, not 10 as Perez stated.
Spanish police refute Perez’s ‘fake news’
Despite the controversy, the latest news reports refute the version of xenophobia spread by Perez.
The Civil Guard (military police) arrested on Monday (August 19) a 20-year-old Spaniard who admitted to the crime, but no hard evidence was found to implicate the Maghreb migrants. Euractiv’s partners Efei Reported
The family of the murdered boy also asked Spanish society through a spokesperson not to fall into the trap of blaming any group and to avoid disqualifying anyone on the basis of “nationality, race, skin color or beliefs.”
As a member of the European Parliament, since a month ago, Perez He cannot be tried in Spain’s ordinary courts for the alleged hate crime because of parliamentary immunity.
It is no secret that Perez has a negative view of non-European immigration and believes that Spain is currently experiencing “the worst decade of mass migration from the Maghreb in its history”.
The most controversial point in his European election manifesto was to build a “big prison” to hold politicians, criminals and non-European immigrants.
After initially reaching out to several far-right groups in the European Parliament, including the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), Sovereign Nations Europe (ESN), and Patriots for Europe (PfE), which includes VOX, Perez was formally invited to join the ECR and will make a final decision in September.
