Spain beat France 2-1 in the Euro 2024 semi-final on Tuesday, thanks to goals from Ramine Yamal and Dani Olmo.
The 16-year-old rising star Yamal became the youngest scorer in the European Cup.
Spain started well and had their first chance about five minutes into the game when Fabian Ruiz headed in a header at the far post.
In the 9th minute, France, who had not scored a goal in open play in the semi-finals, broke the deadlock when Kylian Mbappe made a cross and Randal Kolo Muani headed in from close range.
Spain tried their best to equalize the score but initially had difficulty penetrating France’s tight defense.
However, Spain’s efforts were rewarded when Yamal fired the ball into the top corner in the 21st minute.
Just four minutes later, things got worse for France as Olmo broke through the French defense to make the score 2-1.
After the restart, Didier Deschamps’ side fell behind for the first time in the game as they continued to push forward and trapped the Spanish side in their own penalty area.
Spain came out in full force to keep the ball behind them. France’s Aurelien Tchouameni headed the ball, which was saved by Unai Simon, who had to use his hands to block a dangerous cross from Ousmane Dembele.
France and Spain traded attacks in the closing stages, with Mbappe and Yamal hitting close-range shots from the edge of the box. Spain defended solidly for the remainder of the match and advanced to the final, where they will face the winner of the other semifinal between England and the Netherlands.
“We scored first, which is great, but Spain played better than us. We kept going until the end,” said France coach Didier Deschamps.
