South Sudan President Salva Kiir has sacked his minister of presidential affairs. It has been less than a year since he took office.
The decision to fire Benghazi Joseph Bakosoro was announced in an order on state television late Monday, but no explanation was given.
The sacked minister was an ally of President Kiir and had served as Minister of Public Service in the transitional government.
Mr. Bakosoro is a prominent politician in Western Equatoria State and is currently the ruling party Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (Sudan People’s Liberation Movement).
On July 15, 2021, he abandoned the South Sudan Movement for Change (SSMC), which belonged to the Transitional Government of National Unity, and rejoined the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement.
In another presidential decree, President Salva Kiir appointed Joel Maute Ongwechi Ajongo as the new Minister of Presidential Affairs. Ambassador of South Sudan to Kenya.
In other decrees, Kiir appointed Helen Kamisa Bello to replace the late Agnes Kwaje Rasubba and Riak Michael Mario to replace Michael Mario Toure as members of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly.
