Libreville, Monday, July 15, 2024 (Infos Gabon) – SOS Prisonniers Gabon, led by the transition representative Lionel Ella Engonga, has a noble project entitled “Access to Justice for Prisoners in the Transition”.

Thus, during a meeting with local media on July 13, His Excellency Lionel Ella Engonga announced the imminent launch of the “Access to Justice for Prisoners in Transition” project, with a series of actions to be carried out until the end of December 2024. For him and his family, their initiative lies in the ambition to humanize Gabonese prisons and they say they are proud to have the support of the French Embassy in Gabon.

To this end, SOS Prisoners Gabon will hire a lawyer and will study the cases of approximately 20 prisoners who will file lawsuits in particular in Libreville, Oyem and Port-Gentil.

“We will be able to accommodate more than 20 prisoners even if the support of lawyers is limited to this number. For the others, we will initiate legal proceedings even beyond the time allocated for the project,” explained His Excellency Lionel Engonga Ella.

This noble project focuses on prisoners who have been held in jail for long periods without trial and those who have completed their sentences but are still languishing in jail unjustly.
