This past weekend, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse became the second-highest domestic opening of 2023, grossing (or should we say, wildly successful?) over $120 million in its opening weekend in the U.S. and Canada. But the storyline of this latest Spider-Man movie has always been my own Epic legend.

When Marvel licensed the Spider-Man movie rights to Sony Pictures in the 1990s, the deal made sense—Marvel didn’t make movies at the time, and their business was primarily in comic books and toys. Today, we’ll break down all the behind-the-scenes drama that was just as interesting as the movies themselves.
