MOGADISHU (HOL) – The Somali Council of Ministers on Thursday approved the latest agreement between Somalia and China on economic cooperation and development during its weekly meeting in Mogadishu.

The meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama, also approved the Interior Ministry’s proposal to appoint Abdulrahman Saeed Ahmed as the new deputy director of the Identification and Public Registration Authority.

Several important reports were presented during the meeting, including the latest developments in national security, driver licensing, and the implementation of the newly passed sales tax resolution.

The Minister in charge of the security sector briefed the Council on the overall security situation in the country and the latest developments in the ongoing war against Al-Shabaab.

In recent weeks, al-Shabaab has stepped up its attacks on Mogadishu and its suburbs, with the latest targeting Lido Beach and a major market in Era Shabiha, a suburb of the capital.
