MOGADISHU (HOL) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud accepted the credentials of China’s new ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu, at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday.
During the meeting, Mahmoud spoke highly of the new Chinese ambassador’s desire to promote relations between Somalia and China, and pointed out the importance of strengthening strategic cooperation between the two countries, especially in the fields of economic development, trade and security.
President Mohamed said in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia: “Somalia attaches great importance to its partnership with China and is willing to work closely with China to expand friendly cooperation and continuously improve the level of bilateral relations.”
Ambassador Wang Yu expressed China’s willingness to cooperate with Somalia and stressed that Beijing is willing to push bilateral relations to a new level based on the consensus reached between the two countries.
Wang Yu succeeds Fei Shengchao, who has served as China’s ambassador to Somalia since September 2021.
After presenting his credentials, Ambassador Wang had a telephone conversation with Somali Prime Minister Barre, paid a visit to Ibrahim, Acting Speaker of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament of Somalia, and met with Jama, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism of Somalia.
Ambassador Ahmed Muallem Fiki, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Somalia, congratulated Wang Yu on his appointment as Ambassador of Somalia and thanked China for its support. He stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in economic development, infrastructure and capacity building, and expressed optimism about expanding trade, education and technical cooperation.

The forum comes at a critical time when African youth are increasingly demanding fairness, justice and transparency in relations between their governments and external powers. President Xi Jinping is expected to attend the opening ceremony of the summit, highlighting the importance of China-Africa relations at this critical time.
