KISMAYO (HOL) — The Somali National Army (SNA), supported by Jubbaland Derwish forces, has conducted military operations over the past two days on the road between the towns of Luke and Dolo in the Gedo region.
The joint operation succeeded in liberating about ten hamlets, breaking the militants’ hold and collecting bribes from residents.
“We set out from the Luk district to clear out the Khawarij (the Somali government’s derogatory term for al-Shabaab) who were harassing people and extorting bribes from people passing by on the road. They escaped from us and we are continuing to hunt them down. During the operation, we destroyed their base on the road between Dolo and Luk,” said Ali Hassan Abdi, deputy commander of the Jubbaland Dervish force.
Federal Government and Jubbaland regional forces have stepped up operations to drive militants out of key areas in the Jubbaland region.
