Solomon Ports Authority (SIPA) is proud to announce the successful implementation of its new port terminal operating system “OCTOPI”, which went live on August 1, 2024.

This advanced system is a significant milestone in the Port’s ongoing efforts to increase the efficiency of port operations and improve service delivery.

The implementation of OCTOPI followed months of rigorous preparation and training. The training was conducted in collaboration with SIPA staff and key stakeholders to ensure that all parties were able to effectively utilize the new system.

The new system is used at both Honiara and Noro Ports. It is an online (cloud) based port terminal operating system.

Speaking on the launch of the new system, Mr. Ellison Pade, Chief Information Officer and Special Projects Manager at SIPA, stressed the importance of this development and said it will significantly improve the delivery of port operations services.

“We are proud to be the first port in the region to implement and use this system, which is a modern, state-of-the-art system designed for medium-sized port terminals and is a perfect fit for us,” he said.

“This is a significant investment by SIPA that will enable the Ports of Honiara and Noro to move fast into the future in terms of port operational efficiency and online container traffic handling, which I am sure will support the continued development, expansion and growth of the ports.”

He said that efficiency in port operations is necessary and vital for SIPA and this new system will certainly help the port achieve that goal.

The new system also integrates with major shipping line systems as well as financial systems used by ports.

The OCTOPI system is designed to optimize port terminal operations, improve cargo and vessel management and reduce turnaround times by processing container movements in real time and providing real-time data and analytics.

By adopting this system, Solomon Ports aligns with global best practices, ensuring it remains competitive in our region and in the rapidly evolving maritime industry.

Solomon Ports would like to thank all its employees and stakeholders for their hard work and dedication that contributed to the successful implementation of OCTOPI.
The group believes the investment will bring tangible benefits to the port and the wider community.
