Due to the Sundhnjúk crater series of volcanic eruptions, erosion has occurred across the country.
Yesterday’s direction was from the southwest, so the pollution reached the northeast. According to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, the pollution did not exceed dangerous levels, but it was present in many places, including Flúdur, Húsavík, Mývatthvet, Jökulsárlón and Nordfjörður.
There was little change in the eruption activity at the Reykjanes Peninsula volcano yesterday, with the eruption reaching a certain balance around 10pm on Wednesday.
By then its power had greatly diminished from its greatest height. GPS measurements showed that the ground at Svartsengi had softened by 15 centimetres after the magma was exhausted the day before.
More detailed information is available on the Norwegian Meteorological Institute website.
