The fourth Gulf Family Policy Forum was launched yesterday in Doha, organized by the Doha International Family Institute in cooperation with the Executive Office of the GCC Council of Labor Ministers and the GCC Council of Ministers of Social Affairs under the slogan “Sustainability of the Family Institution in GCC Countries”.
Her Excellency Sheikha Sheikha bint Jassim Al Thani, Assistant Undersecretary for Family Affairs at the Ministry of Social Development and Family, said: “This year’s forum is held within the framework of long-standing cooperation and joint coordination between the Executive Office of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Affairs of the GCC countries and the International Institute for Family Affairs in Doha, praising the efforts of the organizers. This is an important Gulf family policy forum.”
She stressed the importance of coexisting with the rapid changes sweeping the world, especially as technology plays an important role in human life, which can sometimes have a negative impact on family relationships and cohesion, explaining that the State of Qatar is keen to strengthen family cohesion and reinvigorate the value and role of the family in achieving the pillars of community development.
His Excellency stressed that the Permanent Constitution of the State of Qatar stipulates that the family is the foundation of society, based on religion, morality and love for the motherland, and the law provides for the means to protect the family, strengthen its entity, strengthen family bonds, and protect motherhood, childhood and old age in its shadow.
She also pointed out that in this regard, the Ministry of Social Development and Family of the State of Qatar is working to support the building of a strong and cohesive family in line with the Qatar National Vision and the Third National Development Strategy (2024-2030), which focuses on the institution of marriage, promoting positive parenting and strengthening cultural and moral values within the family to enhance the role of the family in building a strong and sustainable society, as the family is a basic unit and foundation. The State of Qatar is committed to strengthening cooperation with its brothers in the GCC countries on the sustainability, cohesion and stability of the Gulf family institution.
Generous financing
His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Hassan Al-Obaidli, Director of the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labour and Social Affairs of the GCC States, reviewed the GCC States’ efforts in caring for the family and strengthening its structure and stability, both at the level of legislation and laws regulating family life and mutual relations among its members, as well as at the level of international and Arab agreements, and accession to them, which, in addition to generous funding, allow the creation of organizational structures serving the family.
Exchange of experience
In the same context, Dr. Sharifa Nouman Al-Emadi, Executive Director of the International Family Institute in Doha, explained that the 4th Gulf Family Policy Forum is a platform for the exchange of best practices in the field of development and implementation of family policies and programs in the GCC countries, as it provides a key framework for innovative initiatives that can help strengthen family cohesion and enhance its role in social and individual development.
She said a survey report on “Assessing marital relationships in the first five years of marriage in the Arab world” was released jointly with the League of Arab States to provide the latest analysis and scientific evidence on factors for sustainable marriages, challenges and problems faced by couples, factors for family stability, and interventions, programs and public policies that will help address underlying marital problems and enhance family cohesion.
