Central Asia (CA) – In Russia, since the beginning of 2024, the special services have prevented 110 terrorist attacks, suppressed the activities of 45 terrorist organizations, and detained more than 1,050 people involved in terrorist activities. Speaking at the NAC conference, Russian Federal Security Service Director Alexander Bortnikov also accused Ukrainian authorities of launching a terrorist attack in the Kursk region. Bortnikov stressed that the countries of the “Western collective” are providing assistance to Kiev.

He said that the Kursk, Belgorod and Bryansk regions are currently carrying out anti-terrorist operations, have formulated corresponding legal systems, and are taking measures to organize the protection of citizens and suppress terrorist attacks.

“Through an unprecedented anti-Russian information campaign involving the Western intelligence communities, attempts are being made to create social tensions and conflict situations in Russian society. There has been an increase in the activities of foreign intelligence agencies to recruit Russian citizens, mainly young people, to participate in terrorist activities,” Bortnikov stressed.

Bortnikov pointed out that the constant threat of international terrorist organizations “are trying to introduce ideas of radical Islamic movements that are not part of the Russian tradition.” He said that the perpetrators of terrorist attacks and attacks are being sought among the residents of the North Caucasus and immigrants from Central Asia.

One of the largest terrorist attacks in recent years took place on March 22 at the Klokus City Hall near Moscow. A group of armed men then stormed the concert hall, opened fire, set the building on fire and disappeared. More than 140 people were killed and more than 500 were injured.

On June 23, another major terrorist attack occurred in the Dagestan cities of Derbent and Makhachkala. Subsequently, a group of armed men attacked local churches and synagogues. As a result, 22 people were killed, including 17 police officers, and about 50 people were injured.
