Algerian athletes continue to shine at the Paris Olympics. On the fourth day of these competitions for people with special needs, Algeria won two gold medals, already halfway to its haul for Tokyo 2021.
Algeria’s second gold medal was won by athlete Skander Athmani in the 100m T13 category on Sunday, September 1. Asmani won the final in the category with a time of 10.42, setting a new Paralympic record.
This is Algeria’s second gold medal after Nassima Saifi won gold in the F57 category discus on Saturday.
Between the two silver medals, two other Algerian athletes won bronze medals.
Paris Paralympics: Algerian athletes stand out
Ahmed Mehideb of the F32 category finished third in the club throwing final on Saturday. This Sunday, long jumper Hamri Lynda won bronze in the T12 category.
Algeria won a total of 4 medals, including two gold medals, ranking 22nd in the overall medal ranking.
The Algerian delegation has 26 athletes and will be eager to do better than in the Tokyo Olympics, where the team won 12 medals, four in each color.
As in previous editions, Algeria’s hopes of winning medals at the 2024 Olympics lie in para athletics.
The vast majority of Algeria’s medals won in the nine Paralympic Games (88, of which 27 gold) were won in this event (75, of which 23 gold).
The Paralympics is the sport in which Algeria has the largest representation at the Paris Games, with 20 of the 26 athletes.
